Chicago Transit Authority worker ‘severely' wounded in stabbing at Damen/Lake station

A Chicago Transit Authority worker was hospitalized after a stabbing attack on Thursday afternoon at a Green Line station in West Town. The employee was severely wounded in the attack that occurred just before 4 p.m.

at the station located around on the southwest corner of the North Damen Avenue and West Lake Street intersection, according to Andrew Holmes with Case Files Chicago, a crisis response group. A police response to the incident prompted trains to bypass the station starting around 4 p.m., and the transit agency advised riders to consider other service alternatives that may serve your trip, such as nearby bus routes, or using buses to other rail lines, and suggested the no. 50 Damen bus and no. 20 Madison bus. Aerial video from NBC Chicago Sky 5 showed police tape outside the station near the entrance on the southwest corner of Damen Avenue and Lake Street and several officers investigating in the area. Additional information is expected to be announced at a press conference held by Holmes and ATU Local 308 President Pennie McCoach at 6 p.m. No additional information was immediately available.
