As of 5:30 a.m., troopers could be seen walking in all lanes between Austin and Harlem as traffic backed up. It s clear that officers are canvassing all lanes of the outbound Ike, looking for evidence of some sort, Martin said. Martin recommended drivers exit the expressway at Central. Video captured at the scene showed at least six police vehicles parked across the expressway, with tow trucks close behind. As many as nine troopers carrying flashlights could be seen walking across all lanes. The Illinois State Police did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago s request for information. This story will be updated as more details become available.
