Akron Tracker
Every road closure, water issue, outage, construction notice and transit alert the city's agencies, utilities and newsrooms reported across Akron and the close-in metro, counted week by week. No login, no feed. Just the numbers, and where they landed.
What the numbers say
A steady week on the roads, with I-77 coming up most. Power was busier than the week before.
Akron averaged 6.3 road incidents a day over the last 3 weeks.
Measured from 133 counted, the last 3 weeks.
Half of Akron's outages clear within 1.5 hours. The longest ran 10 hours.
Measured from 17 with a start and end time, the last 3 weeks.
Week by week
Road incidents fell from 51 to 41 last week. Outages rose. Construction notices eased.
In the week of Oct 25, outages ran five times a normal week, spread across 6 days.
Measured from 10 counted outages against 2 in a normal week.
Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.
Where Akron was hit this week
80 percent of road incidents in the last 7 days happened on four roads.
Areas, most affected first
63 placedWhat the map says
Tap a row to see it on the map.Areas are measured from Akron City Hall in downtown Akron: within 2 miles is Downtown Akron, within 8 miles (about where the I-76 and I-77 belt runs) is that side of Akron, and beyond that is the metro. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of downtown Akron, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. The areas are the incorporated cities and villages in the Akron area from the Census Bureau's limits. Akron's own council wards are not drawn yet. Unincorporated townships are not drawn and are shown on the metro map.
Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Nov 4, 9:39 AM ET.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
