Charlotte Tracker
Every road closure, water issue, outage, construction notice and transit alert the city's agencies, utilities and newsrooms reported across Charlotte and the close-in metro, counted week by week. No login, no feed. Just the numbers, and where they landed.
What the numbers say
A heavier week on the roads, with I-85 coming up most. Water, power and construction were busier than the week before.
Half of Charlotte's road incidents clear within 89 minutes. The longest ran 10 hours.
Measured from 50 with a start and end time, the last 6 days.
Half of Charlotte's outages clear within 3.7 hours. The longest ran 15 hours.
Measured from 41 with a start and end time, the last 6 days.
Half of Charlotte's construction notices clear within 8.3 hours. The longest ran 3 days.
Measured from 34 with a start and end time, the last 6 days.
Week by week
Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.
Where Charlotte was hit this week
44 percent of road incidents in the last 6 days happened on four roads.
Areas, most affected first
176 placedWhat the map says
Tap a row to see it on the map.Areas are measured from the Square in Uptown: within 2 miles is Uptown and South End, within 9 miles (about where I-485 runs) is that quadrant of Charlotte, and beyond that is the metro. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of Uptown, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. Council districts and community areas are both the City of Charlotte's own boundaries, from its GIS, and each district is named here by the community areas it mostly lies in. They cover the City of Charlotte only, so anything in Huntersville, Matthews, Concord, Gastonia, Fort Mill or elsewhere in the metro belongs to neither and is not in this view.
Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Oct 2, 12:58 PM ET.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
