Cleveland Tracker
Every road closure, water issue, outage, construction notice and transit alert the city's agencies, utilities and newsrooms reported across Cleveland and the close-in metro, counted week by week. No login, no feed. Just the numbers, and where they landed.
What the numbers say
A steady week on the roads, with I-90 coming up most. Power and transit were busier than the week before.
Cleveland averaged 11 road incidents a day over the last 3 weeks.
Measured from 226 counted, the last 3 weeks.
Half of Cleveland's outages clear within 2 hours. The longest ran 3 days.
Measured from 24 with a start and end time, the last 3 weeks.
Half of Cleveland's construction notices clear within 32 hours. The longest ran 4 days.
Measured from 19 with a start and end time, the last 3 weeks.
Half of Cleveland's transit alerts clear within 81 minutes. The longest ran 11 days.
Measured from 247 with a start and end time, the last 3 weeks.
Week by week
Outages have climbed two weeks running, 0 to 12. Water issues rose. Road, construction and transit have held steady.
In the week of Oct 25, outages ran four times a normal week. Wednesday Oct 28 was the worst of it, with about 619 customers out at once around 3:15 PM, across 6 ZIPs.
Measured from 12 counted outages, and 619 out together at the worst moment of Wednesday.
Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.
Where Cleveland was hit this week
78 percent of road incidents in the last 7 days happened on four roads.
Areas, most affected first
78 placedWhat the map says
Tap a row to see it on the map.Areas are measured from Public Square in downtown Cleveland: within 2 miles is Downtown Cleveland, within 10 miles (about where I-480 and I-271 run) is that side of Cleveland, and beyond that is the metro. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of downtown Cleveland, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. The areas are the incorporated cities and villages in the Cleveland area from the Census Bureau's limits. Cleveland's own council wards are not drawn yet. Unincorporated townships are not drawn and are shown on the metro map.
Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Nov 4, 9:45 AM ET.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
