Columbia Tracker
Every road closure, water issue, outage, construction notice and transit alert the city's agencies, utilities and newsrooms reported across Columbia and the close-in metro, counted week by week. No login, no feed. Just the numbers, and where they landed.
What the numbers say
A steady week on the roads, with I-26 coming up most. Transit was quiet.
Half of Columbia's road incidents clear within 88 minutes. The longest ran 6.4 hours.
Measured from 971 with a start and end time, the last 2 weeks.
Half of Columbia's construction notices clear within 58 minutes. The longest ran 15 hours.
Measured from 351 with a start and end time, the last 2 weeks.
Week by week
Road, water and construction have held steady. Power and transit stayed quiet.
Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.
Where Columbia was hit this week
54 percent of road incidents in the last 7 days happened on four roads.
Areas, most affected first
647 placedWhat the map says
Tap a row to see it on the map.Areas are measured from the State House in downtown Columbia: within 2.5 miles is Downtown Columbia, within 8 miles (about where I-126 and the Congaree River run) is that side of Columbia, and beyond that is the metro. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of downtown Columbia, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. The areas are the incorporated towns of the Midlands from the Census Bureau's boundaries (public domain): Columbia, Lexington, Irmo, West Columbia, Cayce, Forest Acres, Camden and the towns around them. Council districts are not drawn here. Unincorporated land, much of Richland and Lexington counties, is shown on the metro map.
Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Oct 26, 5:20 AM ET.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
