Columbus Tracker
Every road closure, water issue, outage, construction notice and transit alert the city's agencies, utilities and newsrooms reported across Columbus and the close-in metro, counted week by week. No login, no feed. Just the numbers, and where they landed.
What the numbers say
A steady week on the roads, with I-270 coming up most. Power was busier than the week before.
Columbus averaged 26 road incidents a day over the last 3 weeks.
Measured from 554 counted, the last 3 weeks.
Half of Columbus's outages clear within 2 hours. The longest ran 13 hours.
Measured from 10 with a start and end time, the last 3 weeks.
Half of Columbus's construction notices clear within 12 hours. The longest ran 5 days.
Measured from 29 with a start and end time, the last 3 weeks.
Half of Columbus's transit alerts clear within 2.1 hours. The longest ran 7 days.
Measured from 377 with a start and end time, the last 3 weeks.
Week by week
Transit alerts fell from 148 to 122 last week. Road, power and construction have held steady. Water stayed quiet.
Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.
Where Columbus was hit this week
62 percent of road incidents in the last 7 days happened on four roads.
Areas, most affected first
176 placedWhat the map says
Tap a row to see it on the map.Areas are measured from Broad and High Streets in downtown Columbus: within 2 miles is Downtown Columbus, within 9 miles (about where the I-270 outerbelt runs) is that side of Columbus, and beyond that is the metro. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of downtown Columbus, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. Columbus elects its city council at large, so there are no council districts. The areas are the incorporated cities and villages around it from the Census Bureau's limits: Columbus, Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, Grove City and the rest. Unincorporated townships are not drawn and are shown on the metro map.
Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Nov 4, 9:39 AM ET.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
