Dallas Tracker
Every road closure, water issue, outage, construction notice and transit alert the city's agencies, utilities and newsrooms reported across Dallas and the close-in metro, counted week by week. No login, no feed. Just the numbers, and where they landed.
What the numbers say
A heavier week on the roads, with I-30 coming up most. Water, power, construction and transit were busier than the week before.
Half of Dallas's road incidents clear within 42 minutes. The longest ran 6.8 hours.
Measured from 255 with a start and end time, the last 6 days.
Dallas averaged 3.2 water issues a day over the last 6 days.
Measured from 19 counted, the last 6 days.
Half of Dallas's outages clear within 5.1 hours. The longest ran 31 hours.
Measured from 42 with a start and end time, the last 6 days.
Half of Dallas's construction notices clear within 1.7 hours. The longest ran 29 hours.
Measured from 68 with a start and end time, the last 6 days.
Week by week
Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.
Where Dallas was hit this week
56 percent of road incidents in the last 6 days happened on four roads.
Areas, most affected first
423 placedWhat the map says
Tap a row to see it on the map.Areas are measured from downtown Dallas: within 2 miles is Downtown and Uptown, within 9 miles of downtown Fort Worth is Fort Worth, within 10 miles of downtown Dallas (about where LBJ and I-20 run) is that quadrant of Dallas, and beyond that is the metro. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates, including I-35E and I-35W, are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of downtown Dallas, or of downtown Fort Worth near Fort Worth, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. Council districts and police sectors are both the City of Dallas's own boundaries, from its GIS, and each is named here by the largest neighbourhood associations inside it. They cover the City of Dallas only, so anything in Fort Worth, Plano, Arlington, Irving or elsewhere in the metro belongs to neither and is not in this view.
Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Oct 2, 11:58 AM CT.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
