Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.

What the map says

Tap a row to see it on the map.

Areas are measured from Elm and Market in downtown Greensboro: within 2 miles is Downtown Greensboro, within 6 miles (about where the Urban Loop runs) is that side of Greensboro, and beyond that is the metro. Winston-Salem and High Point are their own centres: anything within 7 miles of downtown Winston-Salem is placed as Winston-Salem, and within 5 miles of downtown High Point as High Point. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of downtown Greensboro, or of downtown Winston-Salem or High Point for their sides, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. Council districts are the City of Greensboro's own boundaries, from its GIS: the five district seats, 1 to 5. Winston-Salem, High Point, Burlington and the rest of the Triad have no district drawn yet and are shown on the metro map.

Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Oct 9, 9:08 PM ET.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
