Knoxville Tracker

Every road closure, water issue, outage, construction notice and transit alert the city's agencies, utilities and newsrooms reported across Knoxville and the close-in metro, counted week by week. No login, no feed. Just the numbers, and where they landed.

Outages fell from 30 to 17 last week. Construction notices rose. Transit alerts eased.

In the week of Oct 11, transit alerts ran four times a normal week, and 6 of the 12 landed on Friday Oct 16.

Measured from 12 counted transit alerts, 6 on Friday.

Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.

Where Knoxville was hit this week

What the map says

Tap a row to see it on the map.

Areas are measured from Market Square in downtown Knoxville: within 2 miles is Downtown Knoxville, within 8 miles (about where I-640 and the Pellissippi Parkway run) is that side of Knoxville, and beyond that is the metro. Oak Ridge is its own centre: anything within 6 miles of downtown Oak Ridge is placed there. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of downtown Knoxville, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. Districts are the City of Knoxville's own council boundaries, from the city's GIS: the six district seats, 1 to 6 (the three at-large seats have no district and are not drawn). Maryville, Alcoa, Oak Ridge, Farragut and the rest of the metro have their own councils and are shown on the metro map.

Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Oct 26, 5:21 AM ET.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
