Portland Tracker
Every road closure, water issue, outage, construction notice and transit alert the city's agencies, utilities and newsrooms reported across Portland and the close-in metro, counted week by week. No login, no feed. Just the numbers, and where they landed.
What the numbers say
A steady week on the roads, with I-205 coming up most. Water was quiet.
Half of Portland's road incidents clear within 88 minutes. The longest ran 8.1 hours.
Measured from 16 with a start and end time, the last 2 weeks.
Portland averaged 8 outages a day over the last 2 weeks.
Measured from 112 counted, the last 2 weeks.
Half of Portland's construction notices clear within 3.4 hours. The longest ran 12 hours.
Measured from 46 with a start and end time, the last 2 weeks.
Half of Portland's transit alerts clear within 2.8 hours. The longest ran 4 days.
Measured from 148 with a start and end time, the last 2 weeks.
Week by week
Road, power, construction and transit have held steady. Water stayed quiet.
Weeks start on Sunday. One thing is counted once per place per day, and something that runs for days counts on the day it started. Brief lane blocks that cleared inside an hour are left out, closures scheduled to run longer than a week are roadworks rather than incidents, an outage counts when it left 10 or more customers without power, and stories about policy or funding are not incidents.
Where Portland was hit this week
56 percent of road incidents in the last 7 days happened on four roads.
Areas, most affected first
317 placedWhat the map says
Tap a row to see it on the map.Areas are measured from Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland: within 2 miles is Downtown Portland, within 9 miles (about where I-205 and the Sunset Highway leave the city) is that side of the metro, and beyond that is the rest of the metro. Vancouver, Hillsboro and Gresham are their own centres: anything within 6 miles of downtown Vancouver or Hillsboro, or 5 miles of downtown Gresham, is placed there. An item with no coordinates is counted in the totals but not placed on the map. Corridors come from the road a source named. Interstates are split into the stretch north, south, east or west of downtown Portland, since one number for a whole interstate hides where the trouble is. Districts are the City of Portland's four council districts, from its GIS. Gresham, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Vancouver and the other metro cities have their own councils and are shown on the metro map.
Sources are read every ten minutes, and the counts are rebuilt whenever one of them publishes something new. Last counted Oct 26, 1:07 AM PT.
Only what these sources published. Nothing inferred. Counted once when an agency and a newsroom report the same thing.
